At The Hair Source, we believe your wig should be as individual as you are. That's why we offer a range of professional custom colour variations for your wig. Every colour option is applied by hand to your wig by an experienced colourist before dispatch, using Wella professional colour products exclusively. This ensures a flawless, salon-quality result every time.

⚠️ Please note: Custom colour is offered as a variation of the wigs from the natural black (#1B) base colour and is applied to your wig before dispatch. All colour services are carried out professionally using Wella colour products. Once a colour service has been applied, the wig cannot be returned or exchanged on the basis of colour. Please read our colour specification guidance below carefully before ordering.

Our Custom Colour Options

Colour Description Best For
Bleach & Toner The virgin hair is professionally lightened and toned to your desired shade, whether that's a warm honey, an icy platinum, or anything in between. We use Wella Blondor for bleaching, followed by Wella Colour Charm for toning. A complete all-over colour transformation
Balayage Hand-painted highlights that blend seamlessly from a deeper root to lighter, sun-kissed ends and mid-lengths. A freehand technique applied by eye for a natural, blended finish. A natural, dimensional, low-maintenance look
Solid Colour
(2 levels lighter, same level or darker) 		A single, uniform all-over colour application in your chosen shade, applied using Wella Koleston Perfect. No pre-bleaching required. A bold, consistent colour statement
Lift & Colour
(7 levels lighter) 		The hair is first lifted from its natural base (1B) using a professional pre-bleaching step, then finished with a uniform all-over colour application in your chosen light shade using Wella Koleston Perfect. The result is a seamlessly blended, even colour from root to tip. A dramatic, high-lift colour result on a virgin hair base
Highlighted Stripe A face-framing highlight or contrasting colour stripe placed strategically through the style for a pop of dimension and personality. Adding a subtle accent or signature detail without changing the overall colour
Full Head of Highlights A full-head highlight service applied throughout the wig for an all-over lightened, multi-tonal effect. Creates depth, movement and dimension across the entire style. A bright, multi-dimensional colour result with natural variation
Base Colour: 1B No change, no colour, is applied. Your wig will be dispatched in its natural virgin hair shade — a rich, natural off-black (1B). Customers who prefer the natural virgin hair colour with no colour treatment

🎨 Why We Use Wella

All colour services at The Hair Source are carried out exclusively using Wella professional colour products. Wella is one of the most trusted names in professional hair colour, used by salons worldwide for its consistent, high-quality results and its gentle formulation that minimises damage to the hair structure.

For our lightening services, we use Wella Blondor – a professional powder lightener known for its controlled, even lift. For toning and solid colour applications, we use Wella Colour Charm and Wella Koleston Perfect, both renowned for their rich, lasting colour payoff and precise shade accuracy.

Because our wigs are made from 100% virgin human hair, they respond to colour in the same way as natural hair — making professional colour products essential to achieving a beautiful, lasting result without compromising the integrity of the hair.

⚠️ How to Specify Your Custom Colour

If you select a colour add-on at checkout, please follow these steps to ensure we achieve your perfect shade:

  1. Step 1: Select your chosen colour add-on from the product options at checkout.
  2. Step 2: In the order notes field at checkout, describe your desired colour in as much detail as possible. Include:
    • The shade name or number from this colour chart:
    • A reference image — you can email this to us at hello@thehairsource.co.uk after placing your order, quoting your order number in the subject line
    • Any specific preferences regarding root depth, tone or placement
  3. Step 3: Our colourist will review your reference and notes and contact you via email if any clarification is needed before work begins.
  4. Step 4: Your colour will be professionally applied to your wig during the production process, within your standard 10 working day production window.

📋 Important Information Before You Order

  • Custom colour is a professional add-on service and forms part of your made-to-order wig. As with all of our products, wigs with colour services applied cannot be returned or exchanged on the basis of colour once the service has been carried out.
  • Colour results may vary slightly depending on monitor display settings. We always recommend providing a clear reference image for the most accurate result.
  • Whilst we take every care to match your reference as closely as possible, exact colour matching cannot be guaranteed, as results may vary based on the natural base colour of the virgin hair.
  • Custom colour services do not extend the standard production time unless you are notified otherwise.
  • Any subsequent colouring or chemical treatments carried out after delivery are the responsibility of the customer and are not covered under our returns policy.
